MOOSOMIN — Andie Hodgson says the time was right to submit her nomination and seek a councillor position around the Town of Moosomin table.

“The community is really important to me, and I really want to help out the people in our community and make an impact, make a difference to everyone who lives here,” she said. “It was a little bit of a timing issue that conflicted previously, so this year, it lined up to me being able to participate in running for council. I really want to listen to the people’s concerns and help impact and make Moosomin an even better community than it already is.”

Hodgson has committed a large amount of time to the East Side Playground project, something that was invigorating for her to see come to fruition.

“I’ve done a lot of volunteering in the community in the past, and my most recent project was the East Side Playground,” Hodgson said. “When we did that, I went off all my other boards because of the time commitment of that project. We had a small, four-person board, and we wanted to fund it quickly, because the cost kept going up.”

The playground was finished last year with maintenance touches done this year including signage.

“Now that it’s wrapped up, I just had a lot of free time. I was thinking, ‘how am I going to give back now?’ And what can I do to better the community?”

An avid volunteer in the community, Hodgson admits, “I don’t have a personal agenda,” and was quick to point out the positive things about Moosomin that make the town so special.

“We’re very, very fortunate in our community because we do have a lot of fantastic things that are taking place,” she said. “We have a lot of fantastic residents, and I just believe I’m a good voice to be able to listen to the people and help contribute to the ongoing success of our community.”

Some other local groups Hodgson has been a part of include the Daycare Board for about five years, the Moosomin Cadets, and around five years with the Kinettes as well. She has also been involved with the Moosomin Chamber of Commerce and has multiple years of coaching soccer under her belt.
