In the evening of Nov. 30, the Alida fire trucks lead a parade passed Trevor Patton’s house, intruding on a birthday celebration. They turned around at the rink then stopped for a while to greet Leonard Patton, the birthday boy, who had just turned 80 years young. Happy birthday, Leonard – may you have many more to come.
Congratulations to Cordelia Patton, a talented Grade 12 athlete, who has been recruited to the University of Winnipeg Wesmen women’s volleyball team. Cordelia is the daughter of Trevor and Shari Patton of Alida. She will be graduating from Grade 12 at Oxbow Prairie Horizons School this coming June and will enroll at the University of Winnipeg for 2021 in the Kinesiology and Applied Health. Best wishes and Good luck Cordie in your future endeavors and enjoy your volleyball experiences.
On Dec. 2, Gray and Edel went to Estevan where both had appointments and later did some Christmas shopping before returning home.
Sincere sympathy is extended to Brenda and Gary Junk and family on the death of her mother Dorothy (Dot) Girard of Carnduff Sunset Haven (formally of Alida) on Dec. 4 at the age of 90 years. She was predeceased by her husband Paul (Chic), her parents Frands and May Jensen, siblings Charles Jensen, Alfred (Marie) Jensen, Jeannette (Lucien) Laval, Dolly (Paul) Leveille, and Evelyn Dubuc.
Dot leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Brenda (Gary) Junk, Gloria Girard (Dave Ince) and her son Raymond (Velda) Girard, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Napoleon Dubuc and numerous nieces and nephews as well as many dear friends. A private family graveside service will be held at Dannevirke Lutheran Cemetery.
A virtual memorial service for Gordon and Edna Gessel of St Albert, Alta., was held Dec. 6. Gordon had passed away May 16 at the age of 85 years and Edna had passed away Nov. 3 at the age of 83 years. Joyce George (Redvers), a special friend of Edna’s, participated in the service.
They leave to cherish their memory son Doug (Nina) of London, England and Blair (Christine) of St. Albert, and three grandchildren; his brother Barry and her sister Della as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Gordon had come to Alida in 1955 to work for Imperial Oil Ltd. He married Edna Sawyer of Glen Ewen in 1960. They resided in Alida until 1962 when they moved to Smiley, Sask. There were many more moves that followed and they finally settled in Devon, Alta.
Lacie Nilsen of Estevan visited with her parents Shelly and Tim Cowan and sister, Ainsley on Dec. 6. Lacie and Ainsley also enjoyed some quality time together by skating on a nearby slough.
Continue to stay very cautious and obey the health rules, keep to small family gatherings only, always keep a safe distance and wear your mask. A big bouquet to all those who are on the front line, doctors, nurses, ambulance personal, first responders, police and anyone else I may have missed – if it weren’t for you folks we’d be in a much more hectic situation than we are.
Also don’t want to forget the postal employees for keeping our mail coming and going, helps to keep us in touch with everything as well as with family and friends who do not have Internet. Thank you.
