Volunteer spooks from last year stop for a very scary photo.

Fourteen years ago the Alida Rec. Board decided to host a haunted house, which will continue again this year.

"It started off very slow. Local kids would come and go through eight times each, but it has built up since then. We saw almost 1,000 people come through last year," Shelly Cowan stated.

Each year the haunted house continues to best itself becoming spookier and entertaining more people every year.

"It's a community wide effort," Cowan explained, "The spooks are all volunteers as are the people upstairs. Everybody in the community either volunteers or donates prizes and candies for the fun fair. It works out really well."

This year the haunted house will begin on Friday, Oct. 19 between 7:30 and 11:30 p.m. It will continue on Oct. 21 between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. The next weekend on both Friday and Saturday the Haunted House will be open between 7:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., while on Sunday it will be open from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. The final excitement will be seen on Hallowe'en where they will be open from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The cost is $5 for every time through the Haunted House.

On Sunday, Oct. 28 a fun fair will also be held. The Haunted House can be quite scary, so the Rec Board decided to host a fun fair for younger children. Here there will be a variety of fun games to be played. There will be fish ponds, game tables, a spinning wheel, and mini-golf. Prizes and candy will be given out.

Many young kids do attempt to go through the Haunted House; though, very few are actually able to walk through the entire production. It is quite a fright, but perfect for a night of Hallowe'en entertainment.
