聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 Manor School hosted a back to school BBQ on Monday, Aug. 31, for students to bring in their school supplies, meet new teachers, and catch up with friends before heading back for their first day on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The BBQ was organized by the School Community Council (SCC) and was sponsored by local businesses, Beaudacious Salon and Manor Agencies.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Principal of Manor School this year is Kelly Logan, who is returning to Manor School after a year in Redvers as Vice Principal.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淚t feels like coming home,鈥 she explained of returning. She had taught for four years in Manor before taking the position of Vice Principal in Redvers.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Logan will be taking on the administrative roles of principal of the school of over 90 students and will also be teaching middle years math as well as RTI, which focuses on working with small group based work in reading and math 鈥 two foundational skills for any subject.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淚鈥檓 really excited,鈥 Logan said of the upcoming year. 鈥淢y vision for the school is to build a positive school culture where students feel safe and loved because that鈥檚 what ensures academic success for every child.鈥
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淭eachers can be more involved in smaller schools and it鈥檚 building relationships that鈥檚 key to success. The more people who are involved in a student鈥檚 life the more successful they are.鈥
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 New to the staff this year are Robert Mitchell and Mandy Vanrobaeys.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Mitchell has a wide variety of subjects he is taking on including grades three and four math, five and six math, grade nine math, grade 10 math, grade 11 foundations this semester, grade 12 math next semester, grade 11 physical science this semester, and grade 12 chemistry next semester.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 He is originally from Killarney, MB, and came to the area because his wife teaches in Wawota, so applying to the 麻豆视频east Cornerstone School Division was his first choice out of university.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Mitchell recently graduated from the Brandon University and is excited for his first position.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淚鈥檓 excited about it all,鈥 he said. 鈥淓verything is brand new and it鈥檚 exciting. It鈥檒l be a challenge, but it鈥檒l be good. I鈥檓 looking forward to teaching students here.鈥
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淚鈥檓 glad Manor has accepted me into their community.鈥
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Vanrobaeys has lived in Carlyle for two years already, but comes to Manor this year, after teaching in Redvers and Alameda, for a permanent position.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 She will be taking on quite the course load as she has grades three, four, five, and six. This means she has four different curriculums to follow, while in the same classroom.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淚t鈥檒l be a challenge, but I鈥檓 excited for it,鈥 Vanrobaeys said. 鈥淚 am used to middle years, so elementary is a change too, but it will be great.鈥
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淚鈥檓 just getting to know everyone right now and am looking forward to the year.鈥
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Vanrobaeys is also excited to get the opportunity to coach the Senior Girls Volleyball team in Manor as well.
