WEYBURN - The Weyburn Chamber of Commerce will host a Handshakes and Hashbrowns breakfast, sponsored by the Weyburn Oilwomen at the Royal Canadian Legion on September 13 at 7:30 a.m. The event will include a presentation with Becky Cassidy, Stakeholder Relations Lead of Women Building Futures.
Women Building Futures was founded in 1998 by a group of Social Workers and has grown exponentially over the years. Their mission is to empower women’s economic prosperity by removing barriers and providing industry recognized training in the construction trades, maintenance, transportation industries and more. These barriers include employment training, access to affordable housing, academic readiness, access to affordable childcare and more.
Over the last 20 years, they’ve grown to become a trusted name in our focus industries for introductory training and inspiring more women to explore career opportunities in these areas. They offer programs and support services to help unemployed and underemployed women explore and connect to careers that pay above a living wage, which lead to careers that not only support their own security but often that of their children.
In the last year 24 years, the organization has been able to train and graduate approximately 2,500 women through various programs.
Cost to attend the Handshakes and Hashbrowns event is $16 for Chamber members, and $20 for non-members. Interested businesses can register by contacting the Weyburn Chamber at or call 306-842-4738.
