The residents of Creighton Lodge continue to benefit from the excellent support shown by people in the community.
The lodge will host its annual fundraising gala on April 12 at the Estevan Exhibition building, with all proceeds going to the Creighton Lodge Trust Committee. A few of the 232 tickets for the event are still available, but Shelly Veroba, who manages the lodge along with Judy Pratt, expects those will be purchased well before the gala date.
Proceeds from the benefit will be directed towards a roof membrane replacement for one of the hallways at the lodge.
鈥淲e鈥檝e had a few issues with some leaks over the years since 2010,鈥� said Veroba. 鈥淲e also have a really good roof maintenance program that we do annually. And they go up there, they tar the spots, and they fix where it needs to be fixed.
鈥淲e have a couple of lines for the cracks that they鈥檙e just having trouble with, and they鈥檝e expressed with us the last couple of years that hallway will need a new membrane.鈥�
Three roofing companies will come to the lodge and inform them of the work they think needs to be done before the projects proceeds.
The lodge expects it will be an $80,000-$100,000 project, to be completed this year.
Previous editions of the fundraiser have generated $20,000-$25,000 for the trust committee.
Proceeds from last year鈥檚 fundraiser allowed the lodge to complete its parking lot resurfacing project. There is a slurry seal to do in the south parking lot, because they had to do a lot more groundwork than expected last year.
鈥淭hat parking lot, due to the low amount of traffic, a slurry seal will last another 10-15 years,鈥� said Veroba.
The success of previous fundraisers allowed them to construct the lounge expansion that was completed a few years ago.
Veroba said they have received donations from people in the community for the items that will be available in the live auction, silent auction and the raffle.
鈥淲e did seek some donations when we went into the businesses that have supported us in the past,鈥� said Veroba. 鈥淲e went into there to tell them 鈥楾hank you for supporting us,鈥� and this year we wanted to do something a little bit different by purchasing our raffle prizes. A lot of those retail businesses said 鈥楶ick what you want, we鈥檒l give you a deal on it.鈥欌��
Among the items that will be available in a live auction is a 4-H steer that Murray GM will purchase in the Rotary 4-H show and sale later this year.
鈥淥n April 12, somebody will actually bid on that steer, but they won鈥檛 be able to receive it until they (Murray GM) buy it from 4-H,鈥� said Veroba.聽
She believes that the support the lodge continues to receive reflects how people view Creighton Lodge鈥檚 contributions to the community.
鈥淲e鈥檙e really fortunate to have the support that we have,鈥� said Veroba.
The event will also feature supper, live entertainment at the event through comedy duo Don鈥檛 Mind Us and a dance. Veroba said they want to have a little more at this year鈥檚 fundraiser to give back to their supporters.
