Town council attended a meeting on August 22. In attendance were: Mayor Sharon Schauenberg; Councilors: Robert Ellert, Kent Fettes, Patrick Grondin, Graham Harvey, Peter Kordus and Renee Clermont; CAO Clint Mauthe; and Kerri Martin.

ASSINIBOIA - Town council attended a meeting on August 22. In attendance were: Mayor Sharon Schauenberg; Councilors: Robert Ellert, Kent Fettes, Patrick Grondin, Graham Harvey, Peter Kordus and Renee Clermont; CAO Clint Mauthe; and Kerri Martin

The meeting was called to order 6:35 p.m. Public acknowledgements were given to Tom Stanley and Assiniboia Times.

Agenda was adopted and accepted as presented.  Moved by Ellert/Fettes. the minutes of July 11 council meeting were approved and accepted as given   Moved by Grondin/Kordus.

The minutes of Prince of Wales board meeting May 11 and minutes of the Historical Society meeting June 19 were accepted and approved as given. Moved by Harvey/Clermont.

RCMP report was provided by detachment commander Corporal Richard Kuhn. Council was introduced to Corporal Liane Lisoway, the newest Assiniboia member and acting Assiniboia detachment commander, who will report to duty in September. Report accepted. Moved by Harvey/ Kordus.

Correspondence was received from: Shurniak Gallery noting thanksfor all the help with Black Top Hop and Prince of Wales , and for new paving at the art gallery location. 

The Assiniboia and District Historical Society Show n’ Shine barbecue will be hosted September 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Â鶹ÊÓƵern Cruisers will team up with the Museum to host their Â鶹ÊÓƵern Cruisers annual fall Show n’ Shine. Residents are invited for a stroll down memory lane with classic cars, food and fun.

A statistics report was received from the Saskatchewan Health Authority southwest six district.

World Duchenne Awareness Day will be observed on September 7. Council received a request for a proclamation, and to promote the day with red lights around the town.  

All correspondence was accepted and approved as given. Moved by Fettes/Grondin.

The CAO report was given by Clint Mauthe. The summer was very busy. Sidewalk repair and replacement is now done. Sand sealing is also compelte. There were 163 new street signs installed. Sewer flushing started on August 23. Summer students will be done their assignments at the end of August.

Centre Streete banners for the soldiers will go up September 23. Close to 100 banners were sold by the Legion.  After November 11, these banners will come down and Christmas decorations will go up. 

The pre-season WHL hockey game for September 9 is now sold out.

The old Turbo station lot is now paved and finished.  It is proposed to make a rest area in that spot with benches and tables and planters. There is a mural being painted on the side the Shoppers Drug Mart building to add to the beautification. Primer paint went up on August 28.

Water report was accepted as given. Water tests are still coming out good even thought the discoloration of the water continues to be a problem.  The water is safe to drink.

Paid accounts and statement of financial activity were accepted as provided. Moved by Fettes/Grondin.

Request for decision: that the town acquire a tax title property, was moved by passed  Ellert/Grondin.

First, second and third reads of a bylaw road allowance closure were moved by Kordus/Clermont. Final read was moved by Ellert/Fettes.

Reports were given by each councilor and Mayor re meetings and events attended since last meeting.

Council will have two meetings in September on the 12th and the 26th.
