From a cast and crew of hundreds the Weyburn Comprehensive School (WCS) students put on one of their finest stage shows May 27 during a dinner theatre setting, amidst the continuing threat of teachers work to rule actions.
The musical play "All Shook Up" incorporates the ever-still popular 50's Elvis Presley music, where students, teachers and staff made the show jump to life after a wonderful meal was served by the Weyburn Rotary Club to the sold out crowd.
The play is set in a small, dusty, backwater town in the U.S. during the fifties where their Mayor has legislated out all fun, music and dancing from the town's limits. That is until a young slicked-back biker/musician by the name of Chad rolls into town and stirs things up with his "Fonzie"-like zest for life and captures the imagination and hearts of all the young people in town.
The well-polished musical takes the crowd back into a time long ago and ends up with most of the crowd tapping their feet or singing along to popular songs that were a hit in their day as youth.
The live band under the direction of Colleen Weimer also added a dancehall atmosphere to the evening's musical event, which made most patrons want to get up and dance along.
Elvis would be proud of the way the WCS students and teachers portrayed his music, as the crowd showed a "whole lotta love" at the end of the play, despite being "All shook up!"
The play was also performed for the public on June 1, 2 and 3. It will also be performed on June 5 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at Brady's house of Flowers and WCS.
