September is Big Brother Big Sister Month here in Weyburn and in celebration of this Big Brothers Big Sisters of Weyburn (BBBSW) would like to show its sincere appreciation to each and every one of its volunteers.

"Our organization is very grateful for the time, energy and heartfelt dedication that so many of you offer the young people in our city," said Amy Mohr, Executive Director of BBBSW.

BBBSW would also like to invite everyone out on Wednesday, September 22 for their annual Volunteer Appreciation Barbecue. The event, sponsored by SaskEnergy, will be held at the City Centre Mall and include a free lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

BBBSW is also hoping to find some new recruits for their mentoring program.

"Whether you would like to volunteer once a month or once a week, we have a variety of programs that would fit your schedule," said Mohr.

The children in the programs are six to 18 years of age and come from all different backgrounds. What they have in common is space in their lives for someone who cares, who can set aside time to listen and laugh and learn together, according to Mohr.

"Sometimes the need comes from family strain, or crisis, developmental challenges, or social struggles at school," said Mohr. "Whatever the case, Little Sisters and Little Brothers are those who can use an extra boost from someone who takes time just for them."

Anybody interested in volunteering their time to BBBSW should contact Mohr at 842-4050 or [email protected].
