LAFLECHE – The infamous “grassy stage” at the Wood River Inn & Studio in Lafleche was speckled with leaves as the last outdoor summer concert of the season took place over the long weekend.

Folk musician Katherine Fischer stopped in on Sept. 3, playing one of the last shows of her summer tour. The change in season - yes, admittedly our all-too-short summer has once again vanished - was a perfect backdrop for Fischer, who enchanted those in attendance with her medicine for the soul via song.

Fischer played a wonderful set with music from her latest release “Great Loves,” some older work from her repertoire and even a few unreleased songs that just seemed to strike an emotional chord. Interspersed with a few covers from fellow female singer/songwriters that inspired her own musical journey, Fischer weaved the perfect mood for an early autumn evening.

Songs like “Forgetting You” took listeners on an emotional ride, with audience members commenting to Fischer after the show how much her music connected with their own journeys.

A line in her bio kept popping to mind throughout her show, “like a re-discovered diary entry on your worst day, Katherine Fischer wants you to feel understood.” That statement expertly explained the underlying message that united her music, as the audience was privileged access to a few of her pages.

A few more dates in Manitoba, then it’s back to her London, Ont. home - hopefully to weave some more fantastic melodies for the soul.
