The Weyburn Arts Council is presenting an exhibition designed to showcase the works of a group of women ranging in all ages, living across the country, but all sharing one common thread - all are either formerly from Weyburn or had a strong personal association with Weyburn during their youth. "Although some of the artists are professional and have had many shows and currently display their work in galleries in other provinces, this will be the first time any of these artists will have a showing of their work in Weyburn where they formed their artistic roots," said Allie Griffin Art Gallery curator Marnie Bernard. The idea for this show came from local resident and artist, Jan Keating. Through mutual friends, Keating became aware of other former friends and classmates from Weyburn who were involved as artists and began contacting them. She thought it would be a special opportunity for these women to come back to their hometown to share what they have developed in their respective artistic endeavors to date.Artists who will show their work include Keating and Tara Keating of Weyburn; Janis Eaglesham, Jane Johnston (nee Bowden), and Gina Rubin of Maple Ridge, BC; Beatrice Bell (nee: Goranson) of Windsor, ON; Doris Wilson (nee Goranson) of Rathwell, MB; Diane York (nee Goranson) of Saskatoon; Jean Chose (nee McAnsh) and Jean McAnsh of Vancouver, BC.Interestingly, there are three mother-daughter connections in this group. Tara Keating is Jan Keating's daughter; Gina Rubin is Janis Eaglesham's daughter and Jean Chose is daughter of the late Jean McAnsh, whose award-winning art is part of the City of Weyburn's Permanent Art Collection. Also, there are two sisters in the group - Beatrice Bell and Doris Wilson - and they are aunts of artist, Diane York. The exhibit will take place at the Allie Griffin Art Gallery from June 1 to 25.
