聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 Cornerstone Theatre is back for another spring production and laughter is at the top of the playbill.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Directing this year鈥檚 Dinner Theatre are constants in the Cornerstone world: Lane and Colleen Easton.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淭his year we鈥檙e doing something a little bit different,鈥 Lane explained. 鈥淲e have four coarse acting plays 鈥 just short one act plays 鈥 in the coarse acting style, which basically follows the same style of murder mysteries that we do; but, this will be a satire, so we鈥檒l be spoofing on what we generally do.鈥
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淭his style is actually probably harder to act. Satire has to be pretty precise. We don鈥檛 want to be flat, we need to stay sharp, so it can be more demanding for the actors and the technical crew because it demands precision.鈥
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The four plays to be performed are 鈥淪trueth,鈥 which Lane describes as a traditional spoof on the classic whodunit; 鈥淎 Collier鈥檚 Tuesday Tea,鈥 which is a period piece involving a coal mine; 鈥淭wo Eggs,鈥 which is a contemporary play exploring the many sides of man; and 鈥淎 fish in her kettle,鈥 with is a classic French farce where actors are in one door and out the other.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淒on (Carter) was instrumental in finding scripts for us and hunting down good projects,鈥 Lane said. 鈥淒oug Waldner is doing our technical and sound effects; which are quite intense and he鈥檚 doing a great job.鈥
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Overall about 20 people are involved with the production including those both on-stage and behind the scenes.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲e chose to do four small ones this year to accommodate a lot of people,鈥 Lane added. 鈥淲e had a lot of interested people wanting to be involved who are bringing new energy and new ideas to Cornerstone. So, some are busy playing two or three characters and helping backstage.鈥
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲e鈥檝e cast people out of their 鈥榥ormal鈥 characters as well, so we鈥檙e stretching people and letting them do something totally off the wall. In small towns, you can get put into roles each year, so it鈥檚 nice to be able to do something different.鈥
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淚t will be really entertaining and it won鈥檛 be too long of a night; it will be nice and fresh. It鈥檚 very exciting.鈥
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Work began on the play in February and has come together quite quickly.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲e got the technical stuff out of the way and got the stage set up, so they can just go up there and do their thing,鈥 Lane said. 鈥淎nd we didn鈥檛 have Paul and Dianne (Twietmeyer) here this time for that, so the set isn鈥檛 quite to Paul鈥檚 standards, but Fred Perry, Colleen, and I put it up and for a coarse acting play it will really work perfectly because things are supposed to be imperfect.鈥
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淭hings are not quite right and there鈥檚 twists to the performances that we normally wouldn鈥檛 have.鈥
