Artwork by Assiniboia elementary students on display for exhibit

Art from Assiniboia Elementary School is on view in the Kay Cristo Room at the Assiniboia Public Library during open hours until June 24.

ASSINIBOIA - The Assiniboia and District Arts Council announced that art created by students at the Assiniboia Elementary School will be on display in the Kay Cristo Room at the Assiniboia and District Public Library through June 24.

The exhibition features artworks from students in Grades 5 to 8.

Grade 8 student Kaelyn Gould created a Remembrance Day poster illustrating the poem “In Flanders Fields,” written during World War I by Canadian John McRae.

“My Mom told me about the poem,” said Kaelyn. “I liked it so I put it in the poster. It tells how soldiers died in Flanders Fields. I drew the outline lightly in pencil, then put marker on top of it and filled in the drawing with pencil crayon.”

Zeke McCaslin made art showing a wheat field in Saskatchewan using coloured plasticine.

“I thought of where I lived and decided to show a wheat field just before harvest,” said the Grade 7 student. “I made it nice and big. For the wheat stalks I made a super long rope of plasticine, then cut it into lengths and added some texture. I enjoyed making the picture.”

Art from Assiniboia Elementary School is on view in the Kay Cristo Room at the Assiniboia Public Library during open hours until June 24 as part of the Art’s Up partnership between the Assiniboia and District Arts Council and the Assiniboia and District Public Library.
