Currently on display at the Allie Griffin Art Gallery is an exhibit celebrating Mother Earth. Saskatchewan photographer Courtney Milne's "Visions of the Goddess" is a sample of 25 of his images, blended with stories by his partner Sherrill Miller.
"Our primary goal in 'Visions of the Goddess' is to present the Earth Mother not just as a symbol, but as she was seen throughout antiquity - a vital energy manifested in the landscape." Milne stated.
It's a celebration of how ancient cultures, over a span of 20,000 years, thrived around worship of the Earth: the Divine Mother Goddess. Imbued with mystical, generative power, she was the source of all life. All of creation depended upon the cycle of her seasons - suggesting that the Goddess in nature is universal to human experience.
Born in 1943, Milne has been a freelance photographer since 1975.
This exhibition, from the City of Weyburn's Permanent Art Collection, explores how ancient cultures recognized the goddess: the expression of the Divine Feminine in the landscapes of the world. This exhibit is on display until August 8.
