Summer is officially in full swing, school is out, the days are getting warmer and the task of finding activities for the kids is looming, with that said the Cornerstone Family and Youth organization (CFY) is again starting its summer club program.
The organization will be offering day camp, five days per week beginning July 2 for children between the ages of 6 and 12 until Aug 23. The hours will run from 12:45 pm to 4:45 pm and the CFY has collaborated with the Carlyle Elementary School, the Carlyle Leisure Complex and the town's public library as well as the Rusty Relics Museum for the summer. This partnership has allowed for a number of activities to be available to all who register, from swimming to book club membership, there will be numerous activities available. The museum will also provide an opportunity for children to learn about dinosaurs, fossils and the weather, among other topics vital to child development. CFY has been offering summer activities for almost 10 years and this is the third year of the program. Program coordinator at the CFY Jennifer Sedor said registration numbers this year is the strongest it's ever been and that the final day to register for the summer pass is July 2. However, if parents miss the date they are able to register on a weekly or daily basis. Sedor highlighted the importance summer programs for children and reaffirmed CFY's decision to partner with other organizations.
"The program is a great way for kids to spend the summer. We have educational, recreational and nutritional aspects of our summer camp presented in a really fun way Summer is a long two months if you have nothing to do and no one to spend it with.Children from alldemographics need fun, safe and educational ways to spend their summers and manyfamilies don't have a lot of optionswithout travelling to other areas or spending large amounts of money," she said.
"CFY saw a need to provide ourcommunity's families with an easilyaccessible, affordableopportunity for their children. The decision to partner with other local organizations is a great support to the summer club program and other programs in our area. Because our program "travels" to other programs around Carlyle it gives our partner organizations a great opportunity to fill their programming with participants."
She described the partnership as a win-win situation for everyone in the community and that the CFY is very happy with the outcome of the program and thanked all who were involved.
"Many thanks to our partners the Carlyle Elementary School, Rusty Relics Museum, Town of Carlyle, Crescent Point Leisure Complex and Carlyle Public Library," she said.
