Surely we are living in a new age. Today is totally different from a decade ago. Almost everyday new things come out. New model of cars, new fashion of clothes, new technology and even new life styles, all these new stuffs are dominating modern people who are living in what is called a postmodern era. A few weeks ago, it was broadcast that a new technology of robot surgery for kidney transplantation has been developed to reduce surgical times and bodily scars. Sometimes we all are astounded at this kind of new advanced technology and the power of human's innovations.
When I visited a retired couple who had been working at a mixed farm for half a century, they said that they were so glad to be away from their work place. One big plus in their retirement was that they were no longer worrying about the new farm technology, especially manipulating computerized machinery. They said that they would keep on enjoying their own way of life. It seems that some new things make people stressful and sometimes it causes them to feel they are falling behind those who have or know about all these new technologies. A big irony is that these new stuffs will soon become old due to another new things coming out sooner or later.
Although it is impossible to put on the brake pedal on the progress of new technology, it is always possible for each individual to make up their own mind with what to do about it. More new things seem to make life more complicated and sometimes confusing to most people who have not related to or have nothing to do with it. Actually all these new things have been designed or developed from ideas that came from the old things that have already existed in order to make them more effective, convenient and better. So it is up to each one's decision of what to do and which one to choose in order to enjoy their own life.
The Bible is so right to say "what has been is what will be and what has been done is what will be done; there is nothing new under the sun" (Ecl. 1:9). As long as the sun is shining on the earth, new things will come out and become old. It will keep on rotating. After two months of summer break, UC Chimes would like to chime again with new sounds so that we may journey together to build a better and more liveable society on basis of faith, hope and love of Christ Jesus. No matter what kind of new things come out, the one sure thing that we all do not know about is tomorrow. Still what tomorrow will be like is mysterious and unknown. Depending on how to face tomorrow, it will make each one's life much different from now. That is a reason why only human beings, you and I, can start new beginning each day and every day. If we start new each day with good and useful new things, then it might be more joyful and happier!
