ASSINIBOIA - An informal and interactive speaking series will be hosted during a Safe-Tea event at the Assiniboia Club 55 on Friday, June 24. Safe and Healthy Communities sponsors this event.

“Members of the Saskatchewan Safety Council will be in Assiniboia for the speaking series. We will have two conversations, one in the morning and the second in the afternoon,” said Barbara Compton, Community Safety Education Strategy Coordinator for the Saskatchewan Safety Council.

The topic of ‘preventing slips, trips and falls’ will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., and the topic of ‘scams and fraud prevention’ will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Tea will be served during both topics.

“Both these topics will engage and support seniors in our community. It is an informal and interactive event, with opportunities to ask questions. There will also be information that can be taken home,” added Compton.

Safe and Healthy Communities is a registered charity made up of a group of volunteers from a variety of organizations that work collaboratively to promote safety, manage risks, and create awareness around injury prevention. A volunteer board of Directors oversees the organization of the Safe and Healthy Communities, providing strategic leadership and overall direction to the agency.

Assiniboia and the surrounding area was designated a safe community in 2010 by Safe Communities Canada becoming the 59th community in Canada and only the third community in Saskatchewan to receive a safe community designation.
