Thanks for all the years

As hard as it is for me to believe, I鈥檝e been writing these weekly columns for approximately twenty years.

As hard as it is for me to believe, I鈥檝e been writing these weekly columns for approximately twenty years. The excitement of having my first weekly article appear in the Estevan Lifestyle鈥檚 second week of publication still occupies a little corner of my heart. Since then, the number of weeks I鈥檝e missed submitting a piece have been limited to the times I was undergoing medical treatment or the occasional other emergency. Heading into the Thanksgiving season, this great privilege immediately came to mind.

Other anniversaries loom large, as well. To be exact, October 28, 1992 will mark 27 years since a doctor in Regina broke the news that I had cancer. Fifty-four chemo and radiation treatments later, I look back with tremendous thanks; after all, in those nearly three decades, we鈥檝e welcomed three granddaughters and just recently, the husband of our second granddaughter. I鈥檓 not trying to bore you with a family history but I can鈥檛 help but muse on these blessings. After all, the official Giving-of Thanks has now appeared.

One of the more mundane things that I personally and thoroughly enjoy are my morning bus rides. This morning as I rode around town I mused on the many reasons I have for giving thanks: our local police force who put themselves in harm鈥檚 way on a daily basis so that we can be safe and our local medical people who are there to provide care are just two of the groups that came to mind. Not to be forgotten are friends, family (including our church family), drivers of those buses and the best neighbours one could have.

Just in case you think I may have forgotten Jesus, the greatest blessing of all, I never could -there is none so wonderful as He!

鈥淭hanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift.鈥 2 Corinthians 9:15聽
