This week has been packed with appointments and activities, including the celebration of yet another birthday. The former has been a mixture of relief and some frustration while the birthday part has definitely been filled with beautiful blessings. Whether pleasant or otherwise, it really is the little things that make a big difference. Commenting on this observation, German statesman Konrad Adenauer once said, 鈥淗istory is the sum total of little things that could have been avoided.鈥 聽Or in my case, I hope I can repeat or duplicate them.
By way of explanation, who of us who can鈥檛 think of something we鈥檇 like to do differently if only we could? I sure can.聽 Makes me think of the old Negro spiritual that talks about needing help on 鈥渆very leanin鈥 side鈥. I鈥檓 sure I鈥檓 not the only one who sometimes looks back on those 鈥渓eanin sides鈥 and faces the vulnerability of our daily living. How encouraging, then, to read and to recall that God has promised to reinforce the integrity of my spiritual and moral well-being; not only that, but He never gives up.
There鈥檚 not a day goes by when we don鈥檛 face our own 鈥渓eanin鈥 sides鈥 and the vulnerability of the 鈥渓ittle things鈥 in our lives. I am constantly encouraged to read that God cares so deeply about my spiritual and moral protection that not only does He promise to maintain the integrity of my moral and spiritual gates but He has promised to reinforce the individual bars that make up those gates. We win or we lose by how we choose to deal with little things and by giving Him permission to prop up those 鈥渓eanin sides鈥.
鈥淔or he strengthens the bars of your gates and blesses your people within you,鈥 Psalm 147:13- NIV-UK).
(P.S. He also provides editors to help writers like me)
