WEYBURN - In celebration of National Nursing Week, the Weyburn Review completed a Q&A with a local public health nurse.

How long have you served?
I have been a nurse for 29 years. The last five have been in Public Health.
What is your favourite kind of community interaction?
I really enjoy going into the community doing our mass immunization clinics. I enjoy seeing all the people and visiting and answering questions if they have any.
What do you view as the most important day-to-day responsibilities?
My most important day to day responsibility is to hear the client and understand what they are wanting and need. Navigating the medical system can be difficult and I strive to provide the care they require and advocate on their behalf to help them receive the care and information necessary.
Why did you choose nursing as a career?
I wanted to be a nurse as it is a career that you can do everywhere no matter where you live, nurses are needed. There are many different areas of nursing from geriatrics, to acute care, to Emergency care, and pediatrics, labor and birthing, there is something for everyone.
It’s hard to narrow down what I enjoy about nursing, I just really like what I do.
