Into a new decade

I clearly recall the hubbub around the end of 1999 and the beginning of 2000.

I clearly recall the hubbub around the end of 1999 and the beginning of 2000. Predictions of possible tragedies and changes in our world swirled around and figuratively, at least, we bit our tongues, hoping only good things would come from this leap from one decade to another.

As we embark on a new week and new year, I am more determined than ever to look for the good and the positive things that come into our lives. While we can鈥檛 help but see and feel the negativity that has invaded our world, we need to make up our minds to prevent it from destroying our lust for life. Yes, wars and disasters flood the news every day, disease and sicknesses affect each of us or our families and we grieve at times. We can鈥檛 ignore these things so it鈥檚 vital that we regularly pray for our world and for those around us. But, let鈥檚 never forget that God is still with us and He demonstrates His love in a number of ways, both big and small.

Here鈥檚 a 鈥渟mall thing鈥 that has created a deep sense of thankfulness over the past several weeks: As is my usual habit, Hubby and I walk each morning and while on our 鈥渕orning treks鈥 we鈥檙e constantly looking for coins that people have dropped. We put our findings in a specific container then, when our granddaughter visits, she puts them in her piggy bank. Two men, obviously not well off, asked why I was looking. They then dug into their pockets and handed me a total of forty-five cents. 鈥淣o,鈥 I protested but they insisted. 鈥淲e trust you. We see you on the bus every day. These are for your granddaughter.鈥 Never again will I take a dime for granted!

鈥淟et each of you look鈥or the interests of others.鈥
