Desperate need of Assiniboia child care facilities is discussed

Fund raising is in constant progress for both renovations and day to day needs of the new daycare.

A public delegation by Golden Â鶹ÊÓƵ Child Care Board Members attended the Assiniboia Town Council meeting.

ASSINIBOIA - A meeting for the Assiniboia Town Council was held on January 24. In attendance were: Mayor Sharon Schauenberg; Councilors: Robert Ellert, Kent Fettes, Patrick Grondin, Graham Harvey (by phone), Peter Kordus and Reneé Clermont; CAO Clint Mauthe and Kerri Martin .

Public acknowledgements was given to Golden Â鶹ÊÓƵ Daycare and Assiniboia Times.

Agenda adopted with addition of two requests for decisions. Accepted and moved by Ellert/Kordus.

Minutes of last council meeting of Jan. 10 was accepted as presented and adopted. Moved by Grondin/Ellert.

The minutes of Â鶹ÊÓƵland Co-op Centre Board meeting and the minutes of Assiniboia Early Childhood Coalition meeting were accepted and adopted as presented.  Moved by Fettes/ Grondin.

A public delegation by Golden Â鶹ÊÓƵ Child Care Board Members attended the meeting. Present at the table was Kaitlyn Batty, Jessie Lothian, Chantelle Hannah, Nicole Batty, Christine Printz. The ladies presented facts of the desperate need in Assiniboia for more child care facilities. The Golden Â鶹ÊÓƵ Daycare was incorporated in April, 2022 and plans are in progress to purchase the Anglican church which had been recently decommissioned as a church.  With a generous donation from RM 72 the church was secured and possession will take place Feb. 28, 2023. 

Fund raising is in constant progress for both renovations and day to day needs of the new daycare. The committee has requested the assistance of Council to make this new facility happen. Future grants will be applied for and fund raising will continue as well. Council will discuss this request at the next finance meeting.

Correspondence received from: RCMP report - no member available at this time, but report accepted as presented.

Provincial Traffic Safety Fund Grant - Funds will be used to purchase two additional speed zone signs. SAMA annual meeting - council members will be attending again this year. All correspondence accepted as read. Moved by Fettes/Grondin.

Clint Mauthe presented his CAO report, which included the sale of the Rubber Plant which was completed. Possession will be Feb, 10. Town crew remains busy with snow and ice removal as needed.

Request for decision

Deputy Fire Chief Appointment was made for Casey Topola and Tyler Bamford. Fire Chief is now Terry LaCelle. Moved by Fettes/Kordus.

Paving tender pre-approval will be sent out for paving work that was not able to be completed last summer. There are still a few areas needing work. Moved by Ellert/Kordus.

Genie Lift purchase was discussed to eliminate the cost of renting or hiring any work that requires this machine, Council approved the purchase of the machine. It will be delivered to Assiniboia. Moved by Ellert/Kordus.

Council presentations given by councillors with reports on meetings and engagements attended since last report. 

Next meeting of the Assiniboia Town Council will be Feb 21, 2023.
