ASSINIBOIA - The Assiniboia Town Council held a meeting on May 23. Present at council table were: Mayor Sharon Schauenberg, Councilors: Robert Ellert, Kent Fettes, Patrick Grondin, Graham Harvey, Peter Kordus, Renee Clermont, CAO Clint Mauthe, and Kerri Martin.

Minutes of the Recreation and Community Wellness Committee meeting of March 7 approved and accepted as read. Minutes of Prince of Wales Board meeting of April 13 accepted as read. Minutes of Assiniboia Museum board April 26 accepted and adopted as read. Moved by Fettes/Clermont.
Mayor Sharon Schauenberg has made a proclamation the the Town of Assiniboia recognizes the month of June to be Parks and Recreation Month 2023. She also made recognition to Public Works week and Paramedic week.
Mayor Sharon Schauenberg made acknowledgement to Clint Mauthe on his 30 years as an Town Administrator in several different locations before coming to Assiniboia. He has served the community for a period of two years and is very much appreciated as one of the team.
Correspondence accepted by: Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators, recognition of long term administrators, including Clint Mauthe of Assiniboia. A letter from Minister Everett Hinley regarding rural health. Both were adopted and accepted as read. Moved by Ellert/Kordus.
Report given by Clint Mauthe: Sidewalks will be completed this week. Pot holes will be addressed. The swimming pool will fill on June 2.
Negotiations have been started with CP Rail regarding the possible purchase of the open space on Railway Ave that is not being maintained and poses not only a eye sore but is very unusable in bad weather due to mud. This will be an on going discussion.
The railway crossing beside Peavey Mart will be fixed before August 31.
It was suggested that some type of mosquito treatments should be implemented around town. That will be looked into.
Steps have been taken to get land owners that have properties in Assiniboia that the yards are not being taken care of to improve those addresses.

Railway Avenue will be renamed Beaton Avenue in honour of Assiniboia resident, Don Beaton. Moved by Ellert/Fettes.
The Emergency Operations Plan accepted and adopted as presented for the town of Assiniboia. Moved by Kordus/Grondin.
Fees and changes Amendment was adopted with a first, second, third and final reading, which included updating fees.
Mill Rate Bylaw increase of up to five per cent on tax. Base rate remains the same. First second and third reading provided.
Centre Street Revitalization: Tender accepted as recommended by Walker MBC Group, but CAO will negotiate to get the final cost of this reduced as much as possible. Water and sewer lines need to be addressed of Centre street before the repaving can happen.
Councilors gave report on the meetings and function attended since the last meeting. The next town council meeting is June 13.
