UPDATE: The weather advisory for southern Saskatchewan was lifted Sunday evening.

SOUTHERN SASKATCHEWAN - Environment Canada issued a weather advisory for much of southern Saskatchewan on Sunday.
Issued just after 10 a.m., the advisory said conditions were favourable for the development of funnel clouds. The statement covered the Estevan, Weyburn, Assiniboia, Moose Jaw, Swift Current, Maple Creek and Shaunavon areas, among others.
"Treat any funnel cloud sighting seriously. Should a funnel cloud develop nearby, prepare to take shelter. These funnel clouds usually appear with little or no warning," Environment Canada said.
The agency said scattered thunderstorms were expected this afternoon over southern Saskatchewan, along a trough of low pressure. These thunderstorms carried a risk of funnel clouds early in their life cycle. Small hail and gusty winds were also likely.
The threat for funnel clouds was to diminish late in the afternoon.
"These types of funnel clouds are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms. This weak rotation is normally not a danger near the ground. However, there is a chance that this rotation could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado."
