ESTEVAN - The Rotary Club of Estevan celebrated more than 100 years of meeting the community's needs during a centennial celebration on Friday night at the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Course's clubhouse.
More than 120 people - many of them current and former members - attended the event. Representatives from other clubs in Saskatchewan and Manitoba were also present. They enjoyed a meal, speeches, presentations and live music.
Club president Terry Williams reflected on the Estevan club's many accomplishments over the years and the work the members continue to do, both locally and internationally. She also made a special presentation to Rotary Club of Weyburn president Jill Thorn, since the Weyburn club sponsored the formation of the Estevan chapter in 1923.
Moose Jaw's Sonja Susut, who is the current district governor for Rotary District 5550, which includes Estevan, paid tribute to the centennial milestone. She also presented Paul Harris fellowships to several club members for their contributions to the Rotary International Foundation.
Harris founded Rotary International back in 1905.
Dennis Moore, who is currently the club's honourary member, was the guest speaker. Moore joined the club in 1981, and he reflected on some of the changes that have occurred over the years. He also humourously saluted some of the other long-time members.
After the speeches wrapped up, local folk duo Last Birds - comprised of Lindsay Arnold and Mike Davis - entertained the crowd.
The Rotary Club of Estevan currently has 38 members. It meets every second Tuesday at noon at the Days Inn.
