ESTEVAN - A man has been arrested and charged after a foot pursuit that resulted in the Estevan Police Service's K9 unit being called in.
Members were dispatched to the 500-block of 12th Avenue on July 6 to investigate a reported assault. A 21-year-old man from Estevan was located and eventually arrested under the Mental Health Act and for public intoxication.
While being taken into custody, he was able to flee from officers and was seen running near the railway tracks. Police service dog Max attended to assist with a search of the area. The man emerged from hiding and surrendered when he saw the police K9 tracking him.
The accused was taken into custody and lodged in cells until sober. The EPS said on July 8 the man had been charged with uttering threats and resisting arrest. He was released and will appear in court in September to speak to those charges.
Members conducted a traffic stop July 7 on a vehicle to check for sobriety, as the driver was all over the road. A standard field sobriety test was conducted and the EPS said the driver performed poorly. The 16-year-old motorist was issued a 60-day driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded.
Police received a report of a stolen vehicle in the 1400-block of First Street. A statement was provided and that matter remains under investigation.
Officers received a report of a theft from a motor vehicle in the 500-block of Bannatyne Avenue. Video surveillance was obtained and reviewed by police. A suspect was identified, and a 21-year-old man was located and arrested. He was lodged in cells and will appear before a justice on July 8.
Police were called to the 400-block of Third Street for a parking complaint. The matter remains under investigation.
Officers were dispatched to a report of kids trying to steal a bench from St. Mary’s School. Two youths were located and spoken to.
Police assisted the RCMP with a report of an impaired driver travelling into Estevan from Stoughton. The vehicle was located and members conducted a traffic stop. An approved screening device demand was made with a result of no alcohol. The RCMP arrived on scene and took over the investigation.
Police were dispatched to a report of a domestic disturbance. The victim left the scene prior to members arriving. Both parties were spoken to and that matter remains under investigation.
Police were dispatched to a report of two vehicles driving erratically on Highway 39 heading into Estevan from Bienfait. Descriptions of the vehicles were provided, however, the vehicles were not located.
Police received a report of a missing person. The person had called their roommate stating that she was taking a cab home, but she never arrived. The female was eventually located safe and sound.
Police responded to a residence for a report of a disturbance. A neighbour heard a loud bang and saw a male walking through the yard and then leaving in a vehicle. Members attended and that matter remains under investigation.
Police were called to the 700-block of King Street for a report of several youths banging on doors and throwing rocks at vehicles. The youth were located and transported home to their family. No damage was reported.
The EPS says it handled 67 calls for service from July 5-7.
