ESTEVAN - The case for one of the men accused in connection with the death of an Oxbow woman earlier this year was back in Estevan Provincial Court on Monday.
Tyler Neil Shaw, who hails from Gainsborough, is charged with being an accessory to murder after the fact following Briana Hayes' death in April. His matters were set aside until Nov. 18, with the hope that there will be an election at that point as to whether Shaw wants a trial by judge or jury.
The co-accused in the case, Taylor Japp of Oxbow, is charged with second-degree murder. He will return to court in Carlyle for a preliminary hearing in June 2025.
Both men were released from custody with conditions earlier this year.
Background: On April 24, the Carlyle RCMP received a report of a potential homicide. The Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit took control of the investigation and began working to confirm this information. As a result of the investigation, Hayes' body was found in a rural location in the RM of Moose Mountain around noon on April 25.
Shaw was arrested and charged the same day, while the second-degree murder charge against Japp was announced on April 26.
