ESTEVAN - An Estevan man has pleaded guilty to a charge stemming from an incident in the city in June 2023.

Jody Bonnor pleaded guilty to one count of possessing a firearm without a licence. Another charge of possessing a firearm while prohibited from doing so was stayed.

Bonnor and two other people were arrested in June 2023 after there was an increased police presence at the Willow Park Greens home park. He was facing other charges, including one of assaulting a staff member of the Estevan Police Service while at the police station; that charge was later stayed.

Bonnor's trial began on March 25 in Estevan Provincial Court and after a continuance, the trial was scheduled to resume June 21. He changed his plea to guilty on the 21st for possessing a firearm without a licence and received six days in jail; with credit for time served, he did not receive extra jail time.

Bonnor was also issued a firearms prohibition for 10 years.
