ESTEVAN — Due to overwhelming support from the community, the fundraiser for 13-year-old Elizabeth Trepanier has been moved from Estevan Exhibition Hall to Wylie Mitchell Hall to accommodate more attendees. While the supper portion of the event is sold out, those who still wish to contribute to the cause are encouraged to attend at 7 p.m. for the live music and auctions.

"Due to the incredible support we have received we have had to move the fundraiser to a larger building. We will now be holding it at the Wylie Mitchell, NOT the Exhibition Hall," the family said in a post on Jan. 28.

"While we are still sold out for supper, we can now accommodate 350 more people for the evening. So come down at 7 p.m., $10 will get you in to see the band and take part in the silent and live auctions, with the live auction beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets may be pre-ordered by sending an e-transfer to [email protected] (answer 'smas'), or you may pay cash at the door. We look forward to packing the Wylie and making this an event to remember!"

Elizabeth, who is battling Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome (SMAS), has faced debilitating and life-threatening symptoms. This rare condition occurs when the duodenum is compressed between the aorta and the superior mesenteric artery, blocking the small intestine. The Trepanier family has been tirelessly raising awareness and funds to cover the costs of out-of-province or international medical care, as no treatment options are currently available in Saskatchewan.

In recognition of SMAS Awareness Day on Jan. 28, the Trepanier family is using this moment to shine a light on the condition and the importance of early diagnosis and treatment. They noted that the City of Estevan will be lighting the water tower purple this week in honour of both SMAS awareness and Elizabeth’s strength in battling the disease.

While tickets for the fundraiser are sold out, supporters can continue following Elizabeth’s journey and contribute through the and . The family encourages everyone to show their support by wearing purple on Jan. 28 and sharing photos with the hashtag #liz_smas_fight.
