ESTEVAN – The Estevan Police Service (EPS) arrested a 33-year-old Estevan man on Feb. 18 as part of a drug trafficking investigation. He has been charged with trafficking methamphetamine and fraud under $5,000.
The same day, officers responded to a theft from the locker rooms at the leisure centre. Police located the suspect, and the stolen items were returned to the victim.
Estevan Fire Rescue Service (EFRS), EMS and police also attended a fire alarm call at a local seniors’ residence. The smoke was determined to have come from electrical equipment.
Several scams and attempted frauds were reported, along with an incident of vandalism at an apartment complex in central Estevan. Both matters remain under investigation.
Police are also investigating a report of a man stealing from a local retailer and a case of a man and woman receiving threatening phone calls and messages.
On Feb. 19, police responded to a motor vehicle accident in the late afternoon at the intersection of Sixth Street and 13th Avenue. EMS and EFRS attended to assist. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and required towing. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Later that day, officers were called to a local liquor establishment for a disturbance. A 48-year-old man was arrested for breaching his no-contact conditions with a previous assault victim. He was also found in violation of his condition prohibiting him from being in a licensed liquor establishment. Intoxicated at the time of arrest, he was lodged in cells and will appear in Estevan court.
EPS also issued a ticket for stunting after responding to a report of a vehicle drifting in a retail store parking lot. Officers are investigating a report of a stolen phone from the leisure centre.
On Feb. 20, police received a report of possible identity theft involving the unauthorized use of an account to purchase and deliver items. The matter remains under investigation.
Police also investigated a suspicious phone call from an individual claiming to be a lawyer. When officers attempted to verify the caller’s identity, the individual refused to provide details. Recognizing the voice, police confronted the caller, who then disconnected. The case is being treated as an impersonation file and remains under investigation.
