ESTEVAN — The Estevan Fire Rescue Service received five calls over the week of Jan. 20-26.
On Jan. 24 shortly after 2 p.m., crews were dispatched to a reported vehicle fire in the northeast area of the city. Crews responded and determined that a small fire had started in the back of a pickup truck. The fire was extinguished before the EFRS' arrival, and there was no damage or injuries reported from that incident, said Estevan Fire Chief Rick Davies.
Earlier last week, firefighters dealt with multiple fire alarms. On Jan. 20 at around 11 a.m., they were called to a commercial fire alarm in the northwest area of the city. The investigation showed the alarm was triggered by the sprinkler system's activation, which was due to an issue with the system in the building. Crews confirmed there was no fire and returned to the station.
Just before 3 p.m., a residential fire alarm went off in the RM of Estevan. Prior to crews responding, it was confirmed to be a cooking-related issue, and firefighters' assistance was not required, so they stood down.
Shortly after that, just before 4 p.m., crews were dispatched to another commercial fire alarm in the southwest end of the city. Members responded and investigated, and again found the alarm was triggered by the sprinkler system activation. Firefighters confirmed there was no fire occurring and that there were issues with the sprinkler system.
On Jan. 22 at about 2:30 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to another commercial fire alarm in the northwest area of the city. Crews responded and investigated, confirmed no emergency was occurring, and that the alarm was due to maintenance work occurring on site.
