Estevan area to be well represented at Summer Games

Many athletes from the Mercury's distribution area earned a spot on Team Â鶹ÊÓƵ East.

WEYBURN — The Estevan area will have lots of representation at the Saskatchewan Summer Games in Lloydminster from July 21-27. 

The coaches and athletes for each of the teams under the umbrella of Team Â鶹ÊÓƵ East gathered in Weyburn recently for a pep rally, and for the final preparations to take part in the Games. 

In the first half of the games, from July 21-24, the events will include archery, canoe-kayak, golf, male soccer, female softball, Special Olympics Bocce ball, swimming, tennis and volleyball.

The second half, on July 24-27, will include athletics, male baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, girls soccer and triathlon.

The Team Â鶹ÊÓƵ East mission staff includes Joni Hagen and Jacquie Van De Woestyne, co-chefs de mission; Tara-Leigh Heslip, Vickie Procyk, Kathy Erickson, Dan Heslip, Tina Clay, Dallas Cossar, Laurie Colhoun and Jodie Wall.

Numerous athletes from the Mercury's distribution area. 

Boys' archery includes Soren Peterson of Macoun; and Hunter Kirby and Brandt Barber, both of Carnduff. Girls' archery boasts McKenzie Bayliss of Carnduff.

The golf team includes Chase Robertson, Kenosee Lake; and Cruz Symons, Estevan.

The boys' soccer team includes Henry Blue, Connor Mercer and Abdul Aftan Mohammed, Estevan; and Leif Clark, Pierson Berner and Clyde Vigo Orpiano, Stoughton. 

The girls softball team is comprised of Kensie Aspinall and Madison Zukewich of Estevan; Elizabeth Bergen and Sofie Morrow, Oxbow; and Kelci Sorestad, Carnduff.

The Special Olympics bocce team includes Donna Â鶹ÊÓƵward, Julie Iverson and Sarah Henry, all of Estevan.

The swimming team includes male athletes Liam Kwochka and Marc Nathan Burlasa, Estevan. The female swimming athletes include Danica Mosley and Jennika Linthicum, Estevan.

The tennis team includes, for males, Jerome Kim, Max Froese, Taylor Lisafeld and Brooks Cote, all of Estevan; and for females, Abigail Jutras, Bella Hammett, Zyla Hammett and Madelyn Stead, all of Estevan.

The male volleyball team includes Darius Dixon, Carlyle.

The female volleyball team includes Alix Rae and Tenley Gervais, Carlyle; Alivia Waldegger, Estevan; Araya Werstuik, Arcola; Summer Bowser, Carnduff; and Hallie Pospisil, Storthoaks.

The male members of the athletics team include Dane Peterson, Chase Himmelspach and Sawyer Tomaszewski, Carlyle; Grayson Brock and Khalifa Elshein, Oxbow; Truman Ciepliski and Adeon Sullivan, Estevan; and Clyde Vigo Oripiano, Stoughton.

The female athletics members are Kirsten East and Karsyn Gervais, Carlyle; and Peyton Irwin, Oxbow. 

The male baseball team includes Logan Kolenz, Broden Henry and Quintin Sliva of Estevanj; Cort Barber of Carnduff; Nathan Gardiner of Gainsborough; and Seth Franklin and Branson Hutt, Alameda.

The male basketball team includes Carter Yunick, Bienfait; and Spencer Turk, Forget.

The female basketball team includes Olivia Von Sprecken, Chelsea Madsen and Graceigh-Mae Sullivan, Estevan; and Ruby Graf, Bienfait.

The beach volleyball teams include the pairs of Harper Robicheau of Emerald Park and Jersey Stevens-Illsley of Redvers.

The female soccer team includes Abby Coderre, Abigail Hall, Kierra Goudy and Nella Hall, all of Stoughton.

This year marks the first time the Saskatchewan Summer Games have taken place since 2016 in Estevan. They were supposed to be held in Lloydminster in 2020, but had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
