ESTEVAN — Estevan Police Service members attended to 53 calls for service over the weekend. The calls included an assault, mischief to property, suspicious person, disturbances and breach of sentencing and release conditions.
On Sept. 6, members received a report of suspicious activity around businesses in east Estevan. The EPS requests all property representatives and owners to keep an eye out for suspicious activity and report any thefts to police.
Officers also responded to a report of a disturbance on the south end. The subject of the complaint had left before police arrival. It was determined that nothing criminal occurred and no further police involvement was needed.
A report of a theft of electrical services at a west-end residence was received the same day. The property owner had stretched a cord to a neighbour's residence. He was warned of his actions.
Members responded to an assault that occurred in northeast Estevan. The EPS is gathering statements and available video. The incident remains under investigation.
Police received a report of a loud stereo in a south-end trailer park. Members attended and didn't locate anyone home at the reported residence. Further, there was no stereo heard playing.
Police received a report of a suspicious man looking in windows in a north-end apartment complex. Members attended and were not able to locate anyone.
Police attended to a report of an alarm at a local business. The property was found to be insecure. It was checked and a keyholder attended to secure the business.
On Sept. 7, the EPS responded to a break and enter at a downtown business. Police have a suspect identified and are investigating.
Members also dealt with a report of a disturbance at a local restaurant. A man refused to leave after being asked. He was arrested for trespassing, charged and released for a future court date.
The same day, members received a report of a disturbance at another restaurant. An Estevan man was arrested for causing a disturbance and mischief after he caused issues inside. He was lodged in cells as police worked to set him up with the supports he needs.
Police received a complaint in relation to an idling train engine near residences. The complainant was provided with a phone number for CPKC.
Police received two separate telephone calls about child custody disputes. Neither party had a custody order/agreement. They were advised that in order for police to have the ability to get involved, there must be an order that has a police action clause in it. The parties were given guidance on what steps to follow and get the orders through the Family Law Division of King's Bench Court.
Members assisted an individual in getting her property back from another individual as they were having a dispute. The matter was mediated, and property was returned.
Police received a report of a possible scam. An individual made an e-transfer deposit on a vehicle that was for sale on marketplace. The seller was no longer responding to messages. The matter is still under investigation.
Officers issued a 120-day driver's licence suspension on an individual who tested positive on an approved screening device for narcotics.
Police arrested a 27-year-old Lampman man for breaching his conditional sentence order. He was to appear in Estevan Provincial Court on Sept. 9. He was also found to be in possession of a narcotic.
Members responded to a report of mischief along Lynd Crescent on Sept. 8. Police are investigating damage to the community garden.
Officers dealt with a motor vehicle collision on King Street. No injuries were reported. One vehicle was towed from the scene and one driver was charged for driving without due care and attention.
Police also charged a 17-year-old Estevan youth for assault after an incident. Police continue to investigate the incident along with a complaint of uttering threats from a separate party.
Police received a report of youths on the roof of an elementary school. Members attended and made the youths get down. They were warned about mischief.
Members responded to a report of a disturbance in the city core. Officers mediated a resolution. One of the parties was going to leave for the evening.
Police received a report of a man punching the side of a taxi and then walking into a bar. Officers attended and identified the man responsible. He had not caused any damage and was just warned of his behaviour. He was aggravated because the taxi was parked right in front of the door to the bar. The taxi driver was advised as to the reasoning for the aggravation.
Police assisted the Carnduff RCMP with an investigating into an assault that occurred in their area. They were looking for the individual responsible and thought the man may have come to Estevan. Police attended various locations in an effort to locate the man and made efforts to intercept him en route to Estevan. Police hadn't located him as of the shift change. The matter is still under investigation.
Earlier last week, members were called to a local business to a report of an individual causing a disturbance by playing music on Sept. 5. He refused to turn down his music and to leave. Police were called and the man left prior to officers arriving.
Police received a report of a man being a nuisance to a business by being in the dumpster and further defecating there. Police located the man, served him trespass notice for the business and further issued a bylaw ticket for defecating.
Police received a request from White Butte RCMP to take a statement from an Estevan resident who was a victim of an assault with a weapon in the detachment's jurisdiction. The victim was contacted, and the matter is still under investigation.
