Bears pick up five of a possible six points in the past week

Estevan now has a 7-3-2 record to start the season.

The Estevan Great North U18 AAA Bears had a weekend doubleheader with North Battleford.

ESTEVAN - The Estevan Great North U18 AAA Bears had two wins and an overtime loss in the three games they played last week.

The Bears rallied from a 3-2 deficit in the third period to defeat the Yorkton Maulers 5-3 on Wednesday night. Carter Hirsch, Roan Burgess and Ryden Anderson scored the third-period goals for Estevan, who outshot Yorkton 14-1 in the frame. Dylan Brass and Cooper Flath had the Bears' other goals.

Brady Carr stopped 26 of the 29 shots he faced to get the win.

Up next was a 5-4 overtime loss to the Battlefords Stars on Saturday. Estevan led 3-0 after the first period on goals by Flath, Aidan Mohan and Boston Schmidt. The Stars rallied for two in the second and outshot Estevan 24-11 in the middle frame.

Flath added his second of the game midway through the third, but the Stars tied the game a few minutes later and scored the winner with eight seconds remaining in overtime.

Kobe Wotta had three assists in the loss.

Brady Carr stopped 39 shots for the Bears.

Estevan closed out the busy stretch with a 4-2 win over the Stars on Sunday.

After a scoreless first period, Anderson and Schmidt scored in the opening 10 minutes of the second period to put Estevan up by two. The Stars scored shortly after Schmidt's goal to halve the Bears' lead.

Estevan again outscored the Stars 2-1 in the third, with Cameron Allard and Wotta potting the Bears' goals.

Cole Ivey stopped 29 of the 31 shots he faced.

Estevan (7-3-2) will host the Warman Wildcats on Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 3 at 2 p.m.
