ÌýÌý On Wednesday, October 15,
2014, Alida (Steenbruggen)
Vass, late of Carnduff, SK
passed away at Sunset Haven,
Carnduff at the age of 94 years.Â
ÌýÌý Alida, the first daughter born
to Bernard J. & Cornelia Steen-
bruggen at Cantal, north of
Carnduff, SK, was predeceased
by her brothers, John and Pete.Â
ÌýÌý She leaves two sisters, Joan
McCumber of Trail, BC and Co-
rie Orser of Calgary, AB and her
brother Bert of Carievale, SK.
Also left to mourn her passing
are her son Rae Vass (Pat Mur-
ray) of Regina, SK and her
daughter Buryl Keath (Morris Linnell) of Medicine Hat, AB. She
also leaves two granddaughters, Sarah and Megan Vass and
her great grandson Wesson Hart, along with many cousins,
nieces and nephews.
ÌýÌý Alida returned to Carnduff from Estevan in 2003 to reside in
the care home where her mother-in-law was the first resident in
the 1950s and where her mother also spent her final years.Â
ÌýÌý Prior to that she spent many years in Estevan where she re-
tired from her reception and X-ray technician duties at the chiro-
practor’s office. During her working years she wore many hats -
lifeguard at the Carnduff pool, primary school teacher, telephone
operator and clerk at the Red & White and Murray’s Bakery in
°ä²¹°ù²Ô»å³Ü´Ú´Ú.Ìý
ÌýÌý She and Andy Vass (1917 - 1978) were married after the war
and lived in Regina, Weyburn and Carnduff during their time to-
²µ±ð³Ù³ó±ð°ù.Ìý
ÌýÌý Her great joy in life was her fellowship with the Church of
Christ in Estevan. She made many life-long friends and loved
her Wednesday bible studies and Sunday services. She and her
family were very grateful for their love and caring over the years.Â
ÌýÌý A Memorial Service for Alida was held on Monday, October
20, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Christ, Estevan, with Tim
Pippus officiating. She will be laid to rest at a later date with
Andy at the Carnduff Cemetery.
