Game on, Hockey Sask announce provincial match-ups for Assiniboia area

Assiniboia and area hockey teams will appreciate fans in the stands as they head towards league and provincial playoff time in the second half of their hockey season.

ASSINIBOIA — The second half of hockey season will include teams working towards league playoffs in the near future, once regular season action wraps up. Hockey Sask. has announced provincial matchups that includes Assiniboia and area teams.

In a six-team bracket of Female Under -13U teams, Lafleche will play Lumsden in the first round of their provincial playoffs.

In a multi-team division of Under-13D provincial playoffs, Lafleche is matched up against Avonlea.

A multi-team draw is set up for the Under 13-B provincial playoffs and includes Rockglen/Glentworth Thunderhawks facing off against the Vibank Rebels in opening round, starting in Vibank Feb. 5 and returning to Rockglen for game two of a best of three series on Feb. 13.

Lafleche opens their Under-15D provincial quest against Davidson.

Assiniboia only has one team competing for a provincial title. In the Under18-A division, Assiniboia will be playing Esterhazy.

A spokesperson for Assiniboia Minor Hockey said, “In the U15 division, there is no Assiniboia provincial team and no players in this age division joining other teams. There is no Assiniboia provincial team for the U13 division however some players have joined the Rockglen provincial team.”

The Assiniboia Richardson Pioneer Â鶹ÊÓƵern Junior B Rebels last regular season games are Feb. 13 at Â鶹ÊÓƵland Co-op arena, being their last home game ,and Feb. 17 being the junior Rebels final regular season game in Fort Qu’Appelle playing Fort Knox.

The Rebels are trailing in the Bill Johnston Division standings for the Prairie Junior League meaning their season may not advance past regular season games.

While the Assiniboia Senior Rebels do not show in the provincial brackets on Hockey Sask., they are part of the Notekeu senior hockey league and currently sit second in the Wood River Division.

Playoffs for this senior men’s hockey league goes like this: Top 4 teams in each division make the playoffs, with a best of five series throughout the playoffs in the first round, first place will play fourth place while second and third place teams in each division face off against each other.
