WEYBURN – Young cattle producers from the Weyburn and surrounding region brought their animals out for judging on Saturday at the Weyburn Ag Society barn, as the Â鶹ÊÓƵeast Club Calf Cruze was back for the first time since 2019.
The competition had 26 heifers and 36 steers entered, said one of the organizers, Carla Fellner.
In the heifers section of the Calf Cruze, there were breed competitions, including for Charolais, shorthorn, Angus, Simmental, Maine and Hereford, and an all-breeds competition, with judge Riley LaFrentz providing the judging and commentary on the entries.
For the steers, there were light weight, medium weight and heavy weight categories, and there was a people’s choice category for both heifers and steers.
A grand and reserve champion were named for both sections, and the show finished with a showmanship competition for junior, intermediate and senior aged youth being judged.
