SASKATOON — The Green Party, the Liberals, the NDP and the People’s Party of Canada have fielded candidates who will challenge incumbent Kevin Waugh of the Conservatives for the Saskatoon Â鶹ÊÓƵ MP post in the federal election on Monday, April 28.

Hamish Graham of the Green Party, Rokhan Sarwar of the Liberals, Jacob Gradzella of the New Democrats, and Richard Brent Wintringham of Maxime Bernier’s People’s Party of Canada are gunning for Waugh’s post at Parliament Hill.

Kevin Waugh, Conservative Party

, first elected in 2015 representing the then Saskatoon Grasswood riding, was a former CTV Saskatoon sports broadcaster and served as the Saskatoon Public School’s Ward 9 Trustee from 2006 until winning a seat in Parliament. He was born and raised in Saskatoon, where he was actively involved in community programs and a recognized supporter of education, having held a leadership role on the Saskatchewan School Boards Association Executive. During his tenure, he advocated for the needs of students and educators across the province.

He supported numerous local organizations, served on various non-profit boards, and played a key role in fundraising efforts for children's programs, which earned him the Saskatchewan Centennial medal in recognition of his long-standing contributions to his community. As an MP, he serves as Deputy Shadow Minister for Canadian Heritage and chairs the Saskatchewan caucus.

Hamish Graham, Green Party

, whose lifelong interest is in science and continuous learning, is the Greens' candidate and is not new to the political scene, having run in both provincial and federal elections. He first ran in the 2020 provincial elections, then was fielded as the party's candidate in the 2021 federal election, and again last fall in the riding of Batoche.

Graham, who owns a haskap berry orchard in Birch Hills, was a former president of Haskap Canada, an association of growers who promote the fruit grown locally and developed through (Ret.) Assistant Professor Robert Bors, under the University of Saskatchewan’s fruit program.

Richard Brent Wintringham, People’s Party of Canada

, known as R.B. to his friends and supporters, comes from the working class and works as a truck driver. He previously worked in a security firm, on the docks, and as a janitor, which gave him firsthand experience of the challenges faced by the working class. He considers the common labourers to be the foundation of a functioning society. He hosts a podcast, RB Ham: Beyond The Pale, on Rumble, where he interviews various people, discussing issues such as politics, history, and pop culture, offering different perspectives and helping shape his world views.

Wintringham loves reading and is an autodidact; coming from the working class, being self-educated and well-informed in today’s political landscape will be part of his arsenal if given the chance to serve as Saskatoon Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s representative in Ottawa. If elected, he looks to bring a fresh perspective from grassroots politics to Parliament Hill, where he would give the working class a voice by advocating for fair policies that would benefit them and challenging the establishment. Wintringham plays and coaches football, basketball, and baseball in his free time.

Rokhan Sarwar, Liberal Party

holds a bachelor's degree in economics and business economics, as well as an MBA from the Edwards School of Business at the University of Saskatchewan, following his move to Canada in 2001. Born in Kabul, Afghanistan, he earned a World University Services of Canada sponsorship to continue his post-secondary education here. He is a Canadian business leader with over 15 years of experience in the private sector.

Sarwar is also dedicated to community service, being involved with the Saskatoon Open Door Society, fundraising, and contributing to local organizations, like the Boys and Girls Clubs of Saskatoon. He is a former Board of Directors President and Vice President of SODS, a group assisting new immigrants to settle and adjust to their lives in Saskatoon. He ran as the Liberal candidate for the then-riding of Saskatoon-Grasswood in 2021, and although he lost, he remained an active member of the party in the province.

Jacob Gadzella, New Democratic Party

embodies Saskatchewan’s commitment to local community organizing and cooperative values. Gadzella is a proud supporter and active member of the Saskatoon Co-op, Steep Hill Co-op, and Affinity Credit Union, championing grassroots solutions to pressing issues like housing, healthcare, and climate change. Being a former union shop steward with UFCW Local 1400 reflects his dedication to workers’ rights and collective action. He believes that communities can solve even the toughest challenges when they come together.

Born and raised in Saskatoon’s Brevoort Park neighbourhood, Gadzella studied Visual Communications Design in Calgary before returning home to apply his skills as a graphic designer. Since 2019, he has worked in digital communications at Affinity Credit Union and recently completed an MBA in Community Economic Development from Cape Breton University. He is passionate about sports, active transportation, and activism outside of work. A long-time fencer and cycling advocate, he volunteers with the Bridge City Bicycle Co-op, serves on the Saskatchewan Fencing Association board, and coaches at the Prairie Fencing Club.
