SASKATOON--The lamb or lion lore has a definite answer with forecast for March's end. Depending on which weather resource you follow, word on the street is that winter isn’t finished with us yet.

While Sask. residents are craving real signs of spring now that the official first day of spring has passed on our calendars, it appears Old Man Winter isn’t quite ready to give up his reign.

Weather advisories were issued March 25 from Environment Canada stating a wintery mix of precipitation is forecast for March 27 and 28, and to expect hazardous winter travel conditions.

Part of the release reads, “Heavy, rapidly accumulating snowfall begins early Thursday morning…..the heaviest snowfall is forecast through Saskatoon and continuing east.”

Up to 10-20 cm of snow is forecast across the province before snow eases Friday evening. The special weather advisory also notes that strong easterly winds will develop causing poor highway travel conditions.

March tends to be a transitional month for the exit of winter with more prominent signs of spring, it also tends to be the most tentative leaving folks with the “will it or won’t it” wonder.

Those that follow the pig spleen forecast touted the accuracy when wintery weather arrived quickly on March 22 listing a number of travels not recommended advisories throughout the province.

However, these recent weather advisories are clear indication that we will be back in the grips of Old Man Winter before March is finished.

Snow problem, flake it til you make it. Those who are ready for winter to let go are holding their breath to endure another blast from winter, while those who are embracing the last of the winter wonderland they enjoy are hoping for a last reprieve to enjoy their favourite activities. One way or another, someone is going to be happy with the result.
