Shepherd’s Call is the latest installment in the internationally award-winning Shepherd & Wolfe mystery series, written by Regina-based authors David Gane and Angie Counios.

Tony Shepherd is all set to graduate from high school when his best friend Charlie Wolfe suddenly disappears leaving only a cryptic text message on Tony’s phone saying, “Help.” Tony’s search for his friend leads him back into Charlie’s past where he slowly discovers the traumatic events that shattered his friend’s life. The book is told from both Tony and Charlie’s point of view, so at the same time as we are following Tony’s search, we are also following Charlie’s adventures as he attempts to figure out why he has been abducted and what he needs to do to stay alive.

I’ve been eagerly awaiting this book. The previous book, Wolfe in Shepherd’s Clothing, ended on such a cliff hanger and I’ve been desperate to find out what happened to Charlie and Tony. It took me a little while to get into this book because it’s been a few years since the previous book was published. But the chapters are short and the writing flows easily, so I kept reading. And I was soon frantically turning the pages to find out what happened next.

The series is marketed as YA but I’m sure adult readers who love crime fiction will be as caught up in the books as I am. The fifth book in the series, Wolfe’s Blood, is apparently coming soon. I can’t wait.

David Gane and Angie Counios have been collaborating since 2008 crafting screenplays in a variety of genres. In 2015 they wrote their first Shepherd and Wolfe mystery, Along Comes a Wolfe, which introduces us to high school student Tony Shepherd and “wiseass troublemaker” Charlie Wolfe, who join forces to find the truth when Tony’s high school girlfriend goes missing.

Along Comes a Wolfe won the 2017 Saskatchewan Book Awards (First Book Award), the 2017 Gold Medal in the Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards and was a finalist for the 2017 High Plains Book Awards (YA). The following two books, Shepherd’s Watch and Wolfe in Shepherd’s Clothing, were also award winners. To find out more (including information for parents, teachers and book clubs), visit .
