REGINA — The most recent quarterly reports on losses of public money within government ministries and Crown corporations indicate losses of $34,556.11 by SaskBuilds and Procurement and $6,223.25 by SaskTel.

The SaskBuilds and Procurement loss involves the Parks Culture and Sport and Commercial Revolving Fund. According to the report, banking information was fraudulently changed by someone impersonating a supplier and payments were directed to inappropriate bank accounts.

The report indicates that while employee, supplier or contractor involvement is not suspected, given the loss is due to fraud and its significance, it was reported.

Police are investigating and to date, $20,948,89 has been recovered.

The SaskTel loss involves an employee. The report states an employee made two fraudulent attempts to acquire SaskTel devices on the same day. One attempt was successful and resulted in the loss of six devices. None have been recovered.

The employee was terminated and the police were notified.

SaskTel says a new control is being developed to deter future losses.

The report covers April 1 to June 30.
