REGINA - Trevor Harris is now officially the new quarterback of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The Roughriders announced Tuesday that Harris had signed a two-year contract with the club.

Harris, an American, has spent 10 years in the CFL. He comes off a 2022 campaign with the Montreal Alouettes where he threw for 4157 yards and 20 touchdowns while completing 71.6 per cent of his passes. Prior to Montreal, Harris played for the Edmonton Elks and he also spent considerable time in Toronto and Ottawa. In the latter two cities, Harris collected Grey Cup rings.

There had been rumors for days that Harris would be joining the Roughriders to replace Cody Fajardo as starting quarterback.

Harris officially signed with the Riders on Tuesday on the first official day of CFL free agency, and he is en route to Regina to meet the media on Wednesday afternoon. Meanwhile, on a related note, the Alouettes have announced that Fajardo had signed a two-year contract to join their club.

The Harris signing is one of several announced so far on a busy Tuesday for the Roughriders. Soon after came word that the Roughriders have signed one of Harris's Alouette teammates, American wide receiver Jake Wieneke.

Weineke had played 16 games for Alouettes in 2022, recording 45 catches for 589 yards and two touchdowns. The signing had been  much rumoured with changes widely expected to the Roughriders receiving corps this season.

The Roughriders had further added to the ranks of their receiving corps with signings announced earlier in the day. The club signed American wide receiver Shawn Bane Jr., who spent 2022 with the Calgary Stampeders with 21 catches for 288 yards and one touchdown.

The Riders also signed American wide receiver Kalija Lipscomb who had spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers in 2020 and attended training camp in 2021 with the Tennessee Titans.

The club also announced that defensive lineman Micah Johnson is back with the Roughriders after spending the 2022 season with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The Riders have also signed Peter Godber as a national offensive lineman after spending last season with the BC Lions.

On Monday the Riders signed American offensive tackle Jordan Tucker, who had attended training camp last year with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and American defensive back Leon O'Neal Jr. formerly of the San Francisco 49ers and Texas A&M. They also signed American quarterback Shea Patterson formerly of the Montreal Alouettes and BC Lions.
