SASKATOON — The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation says its bargaining committee will announce next steps in a news release on Friday afternoon.
The STF has been engaging in consultations with its members about using binding arbitration to finalize a new collective bargaining agreement. They say further details will not be disclosed while consultations are ongoing.
The key issues that have held up an agreement with the province include class complexity and teachers’ wages.
In March, teachers proposed binding arbitration on the single issue of class size and complexity. That offer was rejected by the Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee.
On June 5, when a bargaining impasse was declared, the Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee offered binding arbitration on the issues of wages and the accountability framework. The Teachers’ Bargaining Committee rejected that proposal because it did not include class complexity.
On June 8, the GTBC’s offer was revised to include class complexity-accountability framework as well as wages, aligning with the TBC’s position that class complexity must be included if binding arbitration is to be considered.
