REGINA — SaskEnergy’s has been recognized for innovation and commitment to the environment by the Canadian Gas Association (CGA), the voice of Canada’s natural gas delivery industry.
SaskEnergy won three Environmental Stewardship Awards at the CGA’s inaugural Energy Nexus event in Vancouver, a forum on the growing role of gaseous energy, such as natural gas, in Canada.
Two of the awards were for innovations in reducing emissions and the third recognized superior performance in operating practices.
“These three awards are a testament to the hard work of all SaskEnergy employees as we strive to contribute to a greener Saskatchewan and meet our goal of reducing emissions from company operations by 35 per cent by 2030,” says SaskEnergy’s Acting President and CEO Mark Guillet.
In the CGA’s operating practices award category, SaskEnergy was honoured for an environmental screening tool, a web-based geographic information system that allows operational and engineering teams throughout the company to screen new gas line projects for any environmental, heritage and geohazard impacts.
In the innovations in emissions reduction award category, SaskEnergy won for implementing new technology that captures vented natural gas from the company’s transmission compressors, redirecting it into the engine air intake for use as a supplemental fuel.
SaskEnergy won its third award, also in the innovations in emissions reduction category, for enhancing its , which provides rebates to customers who replace old natural gas equipment with qualified high-efficiency models.
