REGINA — The second round of Ukrainian humanitarian flights to Saskatchewan is due to arrive in Regina tonight.

The expectation is that there will be approximately 200 Ukrainian citizens arriving at the Regina airport on two humanitarian charter airliners flying in from Edmonton. The first leg is a flight from Warsaw, Poland due to arrive in Edmonton early in the evening. Following a brief layover, they will then fly to Regina, which are due to land late in the evening.

According to a government news release the passengers will then be provided temporary accommodations in Regina so they could access key supports and information related to living in Saskatchewan. A settlement reception centre will be available, including on-site personnel to help on such things as Saskatchewan health cards, setting up bank accounts, housing, employment, education, income assistance, community supports and other items.

As was the case with the previous humanitarian flight that landed in Regina in early July, the province is partnering with the humanitarian organizations Open Arms and Solidaire.

"Saskatchewan's approach to welcoming Ukrainian citizens is unique and speaks to Saskatchewan's character," Immigration and Career Training Minister Jeremy Harrison said in a statement. "I am extremely proud of the work that is being done to ensure Ukrainian citizens are safe and comfortable in our province - whether it be for a short time or if they choose to make Saskatchewan their permanent home."

According to the province, more than 1,500 displaced Ukrainians have arrived in Saskatchewan since the Russian invasion conflict began.
