REGINA — For the first time, select Saskatchewan provincial parks will be opening booking to campers throughout the winter, to help offer another winter option for residents to enjoy close to home.
“We know many families will be staying close to home again this season, so we want to ensure there will be a variety of nearby winter experiences and overnight opportunities available for everyone to enjoy," said Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Laura Ross.
Online reservations are now open, with site booking available at Buffalo Pound, Cypress Hills, Duck Mountain, Echo Valley, Great Blue Heron, Moose Mountain and Pike Lake Provincial Parks.
Nightly fees will be decreased for winter bookings between Nov. 1 and March 31, as sites will have reduced services in comparison to summer months.
Camp-Easy locations will also be open, with three yurts available at Echo Valley and two tents at Cypress Hills. These spots come equipped with the necessary equipment for overnight stays with little fuss.
Some parks will also be hosting programming and activities for the winter season. Friday nights will feature “Marvel at the Night Sky” events, while Saturdays will host “Move it or Luge it” winter challenges and “Cypress Snowshoe” guided hikes.
Cypress Hills will be offering a Trim Your Tree activity beginning on Nov. 27, where visitors can stop in and cut down their own Christmas tree from a designated area of the park to take home and enjoy for the holidays.
Pike Lake and Candle Lake Provincial Parks will also be hosting the Festival of Lights once again, with activities in Pine Lake from Dec. 10-29 and in Candle Lake from Dec. 17-31.
