REGINA - A meeting to discuss whether Saskatchewan should join the United States is landing the Regina German Club in hot water.

The Regina German Club is reporting that it is receiving threats because on a booking by the Buffalo Party of Saskatchewan, of a party fundraiser event titled “Should Saskatchewan Become the 51st US State?”

The event, scheduled for March 1, will feature personalities including Tim Kasprick, Lee Harding (who has written for Epoch Times and Western Standard) and Lise Merle (Rebel News) as well as a panel discussion and questions from the audience.

Party leader Phil Zajac will also speak, and there is also a “mock audience vote” planned.

But German Club of Regina manager Kerri Van Loosen is reporting there have been threats made to the facility.

“I am extremely disappointed that I even have to write this notice,” wrote Van Loosen in a Facebook post.

“We have been receiving threats based on a booking that has rented our facility. This is beyond ridiculous and it will not be tolerated. Names are being recorded and action will be taken against these individuals and any others that choose to continue harassing our business over something our organization has nothing to do with.

Van Loosen said that like other Banquet venues they simply rent out their banquet facility and services.

“This does NOT mean that we are endorsing or hosting any booking that rents our facility,” Van Loosen stated.

She also points to policies in place that will allow them to shut down an event if they deem it necessary due to physical harm, illegal actions, and the like.

“Freedom of speech is something we encourage and respect, regardless of our own personal beliefs. After all, we are in Canada and the last I checked, we are still allowed to practice whatever beliefs we choose.”

While Van Loosen did not specify what type of threats are being received by the German Club, there are some online reports of potential protests in opposition to the event taking place there.

On Facebook, Joely BigEagle put up a post which asked if anyone was willing to help organize a protest.

“F&F: We need to act! This “Buffalo” party is ruining our good name and connection,” BigEagle posted. “They are hosting a fundraiser here in Regina on March 1 at the German Club. We need to protest this! The erosion of our common sense and wahkotowin values are being threatened here in our home territory of Treaty 4. I’m calling on our friends and allies to work with me to protest this event! It begins with these small, seemingly innocent events mocking this question, but also publicly supporting it.“
