REGINA - Once again, the Mosaic - Festival of Cultures is under way in Regina bringing the cultures of the world to pavilions throughout the city.
The festival begins Thursday night, May 30 and runs through June 1. There was an official launch event at City Hall on April 21
Mosaic began as a one day event in 1967 and has grown to what is now a three day event with 18 pavilions.
Gursh Barnard, Mosaic Chair, spoke to Â鶹ÊÓƵ about what you can expect.
“For 2020 for our theme is ‘Mosaic - A Festival of Cultures, Celebrating Tradition and Heritage of all people.’ Now it’s interesting because what we mean by that is the city of Regina has grown as a result of people from many many different, cultural backgrounds, and heritage. So we want to celebrate the fact that, along with our First Nations and Metis people, and people of the land, that many others have come and contributed, and they had the opportunity to be able to hold on, and still celebrate the cultural tradition and heritage of their homeland.”
The 18 pavilions are located across the city and represent the following: African, Balaton Hungarian, the Chinese, Hellenic Greek, Hispanos, India, Indigenous, Italian, Kyiv Ukrainian, Latinos en Regina, Metis Nation, Miorita Romanian, Philippine, Polish, Poltava Ukrainian, Scottish, spirit of China,and Austrian
“There’s an opportunity to go and and experience rich culture in every single one of these pavilions. Of course, there will be world-class performances, cultural displays. There’s amazing food, which is aimed around food from each of those cultures and traditions. So in short in three days, you can hop on a city of Regina bus and travel the world to 18 places.”
This event is not possible without the support of several partners, including the presenting partners the City of Regina, Dilawri auto group, and TD Bank.
Passports to enter the pavilions are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and youth. They are available at the Regina Multicultural Council office at 2054 Broad Street, or you can purchase them at the door of any pavilion. A passport purchase will allow you to travel the buses for free to those locations. More information about the festival can be found at www.reginamosaic.ca.
