Recent good economic and budget news has given a boost to the popularity of Premier Scott Moe, who has an approval rating of 57 per cent.

REGINA — The most popular premier in the country is Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe.

That’s according to an Angus Reid Institute poll that came out Thursday. According to the poll that measured premiers’ approval ratings across the country, Moe finished on top with 57 per cent, up six per cent from the previous poll.

Nova Scotia premier Tim Houston was second at 53 per cent, down nine per cent from the last poll on June 22, while British Columbia’s John Horgan was third at 51 per cent.

Next is Andrew Furey of Newfoundland at 45 per cent, Quebec’s Francois Legault at 43 per cent, Ontario’s Doug Ford at 41 per cent, New Brunswick’s Blaine Higgs at 32 per cent, Alberta’s Jason Kenney at 30 per cent and dead last was Manitoba’s Heather Stefanson at 22 per cent.

Angus Reid noted on its website that Moe’s approval rating came following news that adults in Saskatchewan would be receiving a $500 rebate following a surplus budget. They noted resource prices, including oil and potash, increased by supply issues and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, have boosted the economy.

Meanwhile, both Horgan and Kenney have both announced they are leaving with leadership races under way to replace them. Meanwhile, Ford is coming off a majority election win while Legault is currently in a Quebec election campaign.

The Angus Reid Institute conducted the online survey from Sept. 19 to 21 among a representative randomized sample of 3,941 Canadian adults who are members of  Reid Forum. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 1.5 percentage points, 19 times out of 20. For the Saskatchewan numbers the poll sampled 399 adults and had a margin of error of plus or minus five per cent.
