Overall cost of Saskatchewan Affordability Tax Credit runs at $450 million
Harpauer Q1 Update 2
Donna Harpauer is seen here from the Q1 2022 financial update, which included the announcement of affordability measures including the $500 cheques.

REGINA - Here are some further details on the $500 Saskatchewan Affordability Tax Credit payments and when you can expect to see them arrive:

According to the province, all $500 cheques are now in the mail to all those Saskatchewan residents age 18 and over who had filed their taxes before August 31, 2022, and had their correct address listed with the Canada Revenue Agency.

Late filers who filed after August, and closer to the Oct.31, 2022 program deadline, and those who provided address change information, will receive cheques in the mail in the next two months.

The province states an estimated 900,000 SATC cheques may be mailed in total, depending on final numbers of late filers and those who changed addresses, at a total forecast cost of $450 million.

The payments are part of the province’s four-point Affordability Plan that included keeping gym and fitness memberships and recreational activities for youth as Provincial Sales Tax exempt, extending by one year the temporary small business tax rate reduction, and retiring up to $1 billion in operating debt.

"Our government recognizes that costs for individuals and families have risen due to inflation. A growing economy, and a strong fiscal bottom line, allowed us to deliver one-time SATC payments of $500 to Saskatchewan residents, provide tax relief for businesses, and pay down debt. That's growth that works for everyone," said Deputy Premier and Finance Minister Donna Harpauer in a statement.
